There are many advantages to planning a funeral ahead of time. By pre-planning a funeral, difficult decisions will not have to be made during a time of grieving and stress.  You will be able to plan everything how you want it.  Your family won't have to worry and make decisions on how you would have wanted things which will be less stressful knowing that this is what you wanted.  As you plan ahead you will have time to visit potential resting sites, time to decide and compare all of your options.  Your wishes can be put into writing to give your family direction and peace of mind when the time comes.  If you prefer everything to be private we are always confidential.  Our staff will help you plan so that your family can carry out your wishes.

Online Memorials

We can set up an online memorial for your loved one. Our online memorials provide information for guests about the funeral services and also provide a tribute to your loved one. Guests will be able to gain information about dates, times and locations of funeral services. Guests will also be able to order flowers, make donations and sign a guest book through the memorial. The family will have access to the memorial to add photos to create a photo gallery for their loved one. By providing information to guests about services, our online memorials help lessen the load on a family during a difficult time. The memorials also serve as a tribute to your family's loved one.

We will prepare an obituary to be published for your loved one with information provided by the family and proofed by the family.

Veteran's Benefits

We will help you secure your potential veterans benefits, such as burial flags, government markers, and a burial plot.  We will need to have the Veteran's discharge papers.  Or if you prefer, you may contact your local Veterans Service Office.  For Codington County the number is (605) 882-6289.

Social Security

We will notify the Social Security Administration of the death. The Social Security Administration will help you apply for any benefits you may be entitled to through Social Security.

Death Certificates

We will help you in obtaining a death certificate -from the information provided by you- which can be important for insurance purposes as well a host of other issues.  The death certificate is done on-line.  After we enter the information from the family, the Dr. will be notifed to sign the death certificate and then the State of SD will finish it.  After every one has done their job, the death certificate will be available at the county register of deeds office.

After Care

We understand that the grieving process does not end with the funeral. We are here not only to help arrange the funeral, but to help families cope with the loss of their loved one. At Wight, Comes & Sogn our "After Care" person is Jean Fox, who is also our "Visitation Hostess".  Jean will visit with the families and ask how they are doing, if they need anything and also if there were or are any problems. There are a wide variety of grief resources available and we will help to guide you in the right direction and begin the healing process.
